ShipShape Collection explores the relationship between humans and the sea as both a powerful natural force and a vital mode of transport. Nicole van der Wolf draws inspiration from cargo ships braving turbulent seas, heavy anchor chains, and the rhythm of ocean travel. The collection reflects the strength, movement, and resilience of the sea, translating these elements into sculptural, wearable jewellery.
Kinetic Jewellery for Tactile Interaction
The ShipShape Kinetic range features sliding gemstone elements that echo cargo rolling across a ship’s deck. Each piece creates a subtle tactile experience—a gentle “chink” of the stones moving in their cages—soothing to the wearer while evoking the rhythm of the waves. These kinetic designs appeal to those who enjoy interactive, thoughtfully engineered jewellery that engages the senses and sparks curiosity.
Industrial Chains and Link Designs
The ShipShape Link range draws on the bold forms of shipping chains. Oxidised silver and 18k gold combine to create pieces that are strong, flexible, and surprisingly lightweight. Handmade C-clasps allow multiple chains or bracelets to be linked seamlessly, giving the wearer freedom to customize lengths and wear the jewellery in different ways. Materials and Goldsmithing Techniques
Every piece is handcrafted in Dublin using traditional techniques such as lost-wax casting, riveting, and hand fabrication. Argentium silver provides durability while showing traces of the making process, enhancing the industrial aesthetic.
