Jewellery Inspired by Water: From Ocean Waves to Frozen Landscapes

Water as a Source of Inspiration

Water has always held a particular fascination for me. It is powerful, unpredictable, and endlessly varied in its forms. It shapes landscapes, supports travel and exploration, and provides countless small moments of joy in everyday life. My jewellery often begins with observing these different states of water: the motion of waves, the stillness of ice, or the simple pleasure of time spent by the sea. These observations become starting points for sculptural forms that capture movement, texture, and light. Across my work, water appears in different ways, reflected in three collections that explore its many personalities.

Movement and Industry: The ShipShape Collection

The ShipShape collection takes inspiration from the ocean as a mode of transport. Cargo ships crossing turbulent seas, heavy anchor chains, and the mechanics of maritime engineering all inform the designs. In the ShipShape Kinetic pieces, gemstones slide within their settings, echoing cargo rolling across the deck of a ship in rough water. The subtle movement creates a tactile experience for the wearer, inviting interaction and curiosity. The ShipShape Link pieces reference industrial anchor chains. Oxidised silver links fused together and punctuated with gold elements transform these functional forms into elegant jewellery.

Frozen Water: The Midnight Snow Collection

In Midnight Snow, water appears in its solid form. Black ice and sparkling snow create a stark winter landscape that is both beautiful and slightly dangerous. Growing up in the Caribbean, these winter environments always felt mysterious and almost surreal to me. The collection reflects these contrasts through minimalist compositions: crisp silver hoops framing black diamonds or softly coloured gemstones, alongside dramatic one-of-a-kind pieces that combine onyx druse, moonstone and gold. These pieces capture the quiet drama of moonlight reflecting on fresh snow.

Joy and Leisure: The Summer Strand Collection

While ShipShape explores maritime movement and Midnight Snow reflects frozen landscapes, Summer Strand focuses on the simple pleasures of being around water. Watching seabirds glide on warm air currents, collecting smooth pebbles on the beach, or seeing sunlight shimmer on the surface of the sea—these moments inform the shapes and textures of the jewellery. Lightweight chains, flowing drop elements and sculptural clasps create pieces that sparkle subtly, like sunlight dancing on water.

Translating Water into Sculptural Jewellery

Each collection approaches water differently, yet they share the same intention: to translate the feeling of water into jewellery that interacts with the body. Through movement, texture, and material contrasts, the jewellery becomes a small reminder of the natural forces that inspire it.
