For this ring, Nicole was inspired by crows taking off from the Sandymount Strand (Dublin) and soaring playfully on the updraft on hot summer days. The Wing ring and matching earrings represent the courage to follow your heart and the incredible feeling of freedom it brings.

The Wing ring (and matching earrings) carry special significance for Nicole. As a young person she had come to believe that she wasn't good at art. Although she enjoyed the process and was generally quite happy with her artwork, somehow her creative endeavours were never quite what her teachers had in mind.
Years later, when she started her journey into jewellery, the study of crows was part of research for a drawing class she took to remedy the situation. The resulting ring design - admittedly very rough - again fell short of expectations at jewellery school.
But over the years, she kept coming back to her prototypes and enjoyed wearing them. A change in personal circumstances was the catalyst for Nicole to finally break free of other's opinions and follow her instincts - finding her wings, so to speak.
Going back to the drawing board, she stubbornly stuck to her ideas and refined the design. Refusing to compromise on materials, the result is a surprisingly hefty ring. The matching hoop earrings were the next challenge and a great opportunity for learning as she had to reduce the size of the design and thickness of the metal to reach a comfortable weight. She is grateful for the positive support she received from her peers in achieving this - it is wonderful to be surrounded by encouraging professionals.
